What is tiramisu?

When we talk about tiramisu, we are referring to a cold layered dessert that, in general, is made with coffee and a little liquor. There are variations of this recipe in which chocolate or fruits, such as strawberries, are used.

And if you didn’t know, it’s a dessert that has different types of textures, since  cookies are soaked in espresso. To prepare the cream, we use a mixture of eggs and sugar decorated with cocoa powder.

This dessert has  its origins in Italy, in Venice of the 1950s. Its name comes from the Italian expression “ ti tira su ” which means “snack”.

Preparation of tiramisu

In addition, you will also need some Mascarpone cheese (traditional ingredient in tiramisu today). Finally, you can also let your creativity run wild and add any other ingredient of your choice.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of Mascarpone cheese (480 g)
  • ?? 3 cups of sponge cake (360 g)
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups of icing sugar (240 g)
  • ½ cup of Amaretto liqueur (125 ml)
  • 1 cup of cocoa powder (120 g)
  • ½ tablespoon of salt (8 g)
  • 2 cups of extra strong coffee  (240 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract (15 ml)
  • Plastic film

1. Preparation of the cream

  • First, heat a little water in a small saucepan, but do not boil it.
  • ?? At the same time, separate the yolks from the egg whites and place them in a bowl. Book.
  • ?? Then pour the yolks into a bowl and add a little sugar and a tablespoon of vanilla essence. Beat to form a foam.
  • Then mix this preparation with hot water  and continue beating.
  • Add the liquor little by little.
  • Finally, remove from the heat and beat one last time before setting aside. Cover with plastic wrap.

2. Preparation of tiramisu

  • To start, mix the cheese with the cream prepared previously until you obtain a smooth mixture.
  • Then beat the whites and add the salt and a little sugar while beating.
  • Mix the cream and the egg whites together. To do this, use a spatula.
  • Then boil some water to brew the coffee and let it cool down a bit. Dip the sponge cake in it.
  • In a mold, place a layer of sponge cake soaked in coffee and one in cream until all your preparations are used up.
  • Finally, sprinkle the tiramisu with cocoa and put it in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours to make it a little firm. Then, serve and feast with the family!

Low calorie tiramisu

We know that many people dislike desserts that are high in sweeteners. That is why we have decided to offer you a variation of the traditional recipe so that you can enjoy it without remorse.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of coffee sponge cake (360 g)
  • ½ cup of oatmeal (60 g)
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons of milk (45 ml)
  • ½ cup of stevia (60 g)
  •  1 tablespoon of yeast (15 g)
  • 2 cups light creamy cheese (240 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch (15 g)
  • ½ cup of liquid milk (125 ml)
  • Cocoa powder for garnish

Preparation

  • To start, beat the egg yolks with the tablespoons of milk, cornstarch and sweetener and put the mixture in the microwave for 3 minutes, until it hardens.
  • Then, pour this mixture into a bowl and place it in a bain-marie until it thickens.
  • Then, mix the rest of the ingredients in a separate bowl, except for the sponge cake, and leave in the microwave for about 3 minutes.
  • Then, in a mold, place a layer of sponge cake, a layer of cream, and so on.
  • Finally, sprinkle with cocoa powder and refrigerate for 2 hours. Enjoy your meal !
