Lavender candelilla wax ointment

Candelilla wax is a compound that is highly valued around the world due to its many cosmetic applications, making it a healthy element that will serve as the basis for making almost all remedies.

In addition, another of the main ingredients of this ointment is lavender. Why ? One of the great benefits of lavender oil is that it acts as a powerful mosquito repellant. Additionally, it has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce the swelling, irritation, and itching from insect bites.

Ingredients

  • ½ tablespoon of Candelilla wax (6 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of lanolin (12 g)
  • 5 tablespoons of sweet almond oil (75 ml)
  • 40 drops of lavender essential oil
  • Container with lid (approx. 100 g)
  • Wooden spatula

Preparation

  • Place the Candelilla wax with the lanolin in a container and heat in a double boiler so that they melt together.
  • Once the wax and lanolin have been diluted and cooled a little, pour in the sweet almond oil and mix with a spatula. You need to take care that the base is not too hot so that the properties of the oil remain intact.
  • Once the mixture is opaque and creamy, pour the drops of lavender essential oil and incorporate them delicately using the spatula.
  • Once the ingredients have formed a homogeneous mixture, cover the contents of the container and wait for the ointment to cool.
  • As soon as the ointment solidifies, you can apply it to the affected areas.

Vaseline and chamomile ointment

As such, petroleum jelly stimulates and speeds up cell turnover. To this base we will add chamomile essential oil which is very popular for its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and analgesic properties.

Chamomile essential oil fights inflammation and itching caused by mosquito bites. In addition, it cleanses and accelerates cell regeneration.

  • 100 grams of petroleum jelly or paraffin
  • 1 tablespoon of dried chamomile (15 g)

Preparation

  • In a container, place the petroleum jelly in a water bath for a few minutes to melt.
  • Once the petroleum jelly is liquid, add  the dry chamomile flowers and keep the mixture over low heat  for a few hours.
  • Once the petroleum jelly has infused with the properties and color of chamomile,  strain the mixture through the colander or sieve. It is important that this step is carried out with care and preferably with gloves in order to avoid any risk of burns.
  • Pour the concentrate into the glass container and let it cool. Now you have a home remedy to soothe mosquito bites!

Shea butter and lemongrass ointment

Shea butter has been used since Antiquity for its excellent moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Additionally , citronella oil is a good pain reliever, antiseptic, and mosquito repellent.  These ingredients are therefore perfect for a homemade ointment to calm the bites of these insects.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of shea butter (15 g)
  • 1 teaspoon of almond oil (5 ml)
  • 20 drops of lemongrass essential oil
  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil
  • Small glass container (25 ml)
  • Wooden spatula

Preparation

  • In a container, heat the shea butter in a double boiler for a few minutes. Once the butter has melted, gently remove from the heat and let cool for a few minutes.
  • A little before the shea butter takes on a less liquid consistency, pour in the sweet almond oil and mix well with a wooden spatula.
  • After obtaining a homogeneous mixture and after allowing it to cool a little, add the lavender and lemongrass oils.
  • Mix and pour the resulting preparation into a wide-mouthed container. Let it cool for a few hours before applying it to the lesions.
